Old-Timey Subway Train Campaign of the Day: To promote the upcoming second season of its critically acclaimed period series Boardwalk Empire, HBO, with a little help from NYC’s MTA, will install a throwback subway train that will run through September 25th — the show’s premiere date.

Details:

Starting on Saturday, September 3rd an authentic vintage 1920’s train will run on the express 2/3 track in Manhattan throughout September (specifically, from 12 to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays). Originally operated by the Interborough Rapid Transit (IRT) system, the train began service back in 1917 and will once again be operational. Customers who have the opportunity to ride the vintage train will be transported back in time to the Prohibition era with authentic details such as rattan seats, ceiling fans and drop sash windows, as well as a custom branded interior featuring Boardwalk Empire-inspired period artwork.

NB: During the final weekend of the promo, HBO-branded people will be handing out complimentary MetroCards near the Times Square-42nd and 72nd street stations.

Updates from China

With the landslides and what not and the fact that we hadn’t heard from Dave since Saturday, we were all slightly concerned and sent an email to Dave hoping he would respond letting us know that he and El are fine. The following email chain took place:

Beaurain: you guys ok out there? With the landslide and all?

Michaux: Wow, someone reads the newspaper.

Julie: I’m glad Dave sent that previous email about how he was able to free his foot against all odds in the crevice of that mountain and he ended up with a job despite the Dubai opportunity falling through… gives me great hope that that he’d be able to fashion a scuba apparatus out of a straw and a coke bottle to face flooding and mudslides

But in all seriousness, please guys, stay safe and don’t be stupid.

Michaux: And wrap it when you go to those tea houses. Herpes are forever.

Nisha: EWWWWW. Michaux- gross.

Beaurain: It is true. Don’t you all forget it.

Julie: God am I glad I’m friends with you all.

Shana: Agreed. And I hope the travels are going well and you’re taking a lot of pictures and you don’t really approach the n. Korean border guards

(A FEW HOURS LATER):

Dave (YAY HE’S NOT BURIED IN MUD): So, we got bored with Beijing, rented some animal constumes, and went to the Beijing zoo to play with the kids. Elias was in a full-body yellow tiger outfit and somebody handed him a baby to hold for a picture (we got mobbed by a crowd of people before security kicked us out). Y’all are going to enjoy the pics. Just rode all the way along the great wall, refusing to stop the two times thus far… the three times thus far… the cop has pulled us over. Bike has broken down twice. Still doing well.
